Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser 21st September 1917: Death of Private Francis McClymont K.O.S.B., 2nd son of Mr & Mrs F. McClymont, Catherine Street. Francis was killed in action on 16th August (1917). Private McClymont left Gatehouse with the first detachment of the K.O.S.B. on 6th August 1914. At the date of his death he was just over 19 years of age.

Kirkcudbrightshire Advertiser 10th August 1917: Mr & Mrs T. McConnell, Cardoness Fisheries have received a postcard from their son Private John McConnell, Australians, saying that he is a prisoner of war in Germany. He had been reported missing on 11th April (1917).
