We reproduce below a list of place names that we know of in Girthon and Anwoth, together with grid references and generally accepted reasons for the names that were used. This list includes old and modern names many of which do not appear on maps. This is more comprehensive than the 'old' place names that are covered by the 'kirkcudbright.co' website and makes no attempt to explain the linguistic origins of the names that are included on 'Alan James' page on place names.
